- Post-Doctoral Fellow/Staff Scientist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Michigan
Description
The newly established research laboratory of physician-scientist Dr. Ameer Elaimy in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Michigan is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow or Staff Scientist to investigate the tumor microenvironment, cancer metabolism, immuno-oncology, and experimental therapeutics in liver cancer. Our laboratory focuses on understanding how metabolic interactions between tumor cells and the microenvironment drive therapeutic resistance and on translating these discoveries into clinical trials, including approaches that enhance the efficacy of radiation therapy and immunotherapy.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in cellular and molecular biology. Qualified applicants should have advanced experience with mammalian cell culture, gene expression and editing (including CRISPR/Cas9 biotechnology), mouse modeling of cancer and flow cytometry. Experience with bioinformatics, metabolomics and other computational approaches, and hydrodynamic tail vein injection is highly desirable. Applicants should hold, or be nearing completion of, a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., and have a strong interest in cancer biology and translational oncology.
The University of Michigan Department of Radiation Oncology provides an exceptional environment for translational cancer research, with a longstanding history of developing preclinical radiosensitization strategies that have advanced directly into clinical trials. The close integration of basic, translational, and clinical research provides unique opportunities to develop mechanistically driven therapeutic strategies and rapidly translate promising discoveries toward patients. The selected applicant will have access to extensive institutional resources and opportunities for collaboration across the Department of Radiation Oncology and the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center, including opportunities and support to apply for independent research funding.
